Ms. Marikawa’s works have been prominently exhibited globally, in Japan, Europe and the United States.  Being academically trained at the National Academy School of Fine Arts in New York City, her background in academic anatomical studies and visual perception is complemented by a focus on the importance of individual expression in the making of art.

Ms. Morikawa’s work is characterized by its the vivid or complexed colors, layers and several different various other mediums, she influenced by the Abstract Expressionists. She paints mostly from direct observation; creating a seamless relationship between color and shape is very important to her. Her art works are the result of her radical amazement at the beauty of the visual world and her need to turn that experience into paint. She has said of her approach:

“My artistic vision is defined by a passionate commitment to art and nature, my works are conversations between my eyes, my mind, my heart, and then the canvas in front of me. Subjects for my work are based in the natural world, and their portrayal often refers to the integrity of form within an environment and explores concepts of transcendence. I transform the nature's forms into my expressive work with mysterious atmosphere - both organic and constructive. The knowable and the possible visuals are melded through sensual intuition. I paint as result of my radical amazement at the beauty of visual world and my need to turn that experience into paint. Nature is my frame of reference. I paint what nature leaves with me. I am concerned with light and what light does to color, which is why I call myself an Abstract Impressionist. I like to entice and engage my viewers, drawing them into a fresh and beautiful world. I try to capture the essence in my painting, the color and the emotion, and leave the rest to the viewer’s imagination, to bring them into the painting.

The moment I see the scenery, my priority is the feeling that a painting suggests. I paint from emotion as the most specific and authentic thing that I can express in a work of art. Color is very important and essential to my work. Color as feeling and a tool for setting the rhythm of a painting, as sound, melody set the rhythm of music.  I am concerned about the quality of the materials that will touch the senses to find the rhythm for a painting. I aim to project not only romantic and sentimental emotions but a reflection of myself, my essence on the creations.”
